Fort Augustus Attractions

Caledonian Canal
Telfords famous canal completed in 1822. Joins various lochs together from Fort William to Inverness. Watch the boats go up and down the flight of locks from Loch Ness onto the Canal.
Loch Ness View Point
Beautiful views from the point. Photo opportunity and Nessie spotting !!!
Old Oich River Bridge
A listed monument. The Fort Augustus Preservation Trust are currently raising funds to fully restore the bridge in the very near future.

The Battle of the Shirts
Fought at the head of Loch Lochy on July 15th 1544. This conflict was so named since the day being so hot the opposing clans discarded their plaids, fighting only in their shirts.
Bridge of Oich
Designed in 1854 by James Dredge this cantilever bridge over the River Oich was used up to 1932. Today traffic goes over the Caledonian Canal at the nearby Aberchalder swing bridge.
Glengarry Castle
Now in ruins was the seat of the chiefs of the MacDonnell’s of Glengarry. It was burned down in 1654 rebuilt c1660-1665 partially destroyed again after 1745 by troops under “Butcher” Cumberland.
Glengarry Community Hall & Shinty Pitch
The Hall houses a permanent exhibition open Easter to October and the local public toilets. The local Highland Games are held on the shinty pitch the first Saturday in July each year.
Well of the Seven Heads
South of Invergarry along the west shore of Loch Oich. The obelisk erected in 1812 sits on top of the well, tells the story of the wells gruesome past, which took place in 1663.

Falls of Invermoriston
The view of the falls from the old Summer House on the footpath from the new bridge, is fantastic.
Hamish and Hector
Local Highland Cattle who live in the field which is at the back of the main car park. By now, these two must be the most photographed "Coos" in the Highlands!
St Columba’s Well
This ancient well was blessed by St Columba on his travels to visit King Brude near Inverness in AD 565.
Telfords Bridge
A 19th Century stone arch bridge built by Thomas Telford.
